- Subcollection contains a precedent book relating to the Manor of Howden in the 18th century containing notes and abstracts of legal agreements and precedents relating to the manor of Howden and surrounding areas. The Manor of Howden is situated in East Yorkshire 3 miles north of Goole. It is known to have been in existence from at least 959AD when it was given to Ethelfleda by her husband King Edgar of England. Around 1080 the manor was later given to the Bishops of Durham by William the Conqueror.
