The file consists of of correspondence between the Engineer to the Humber Conservancy Board (Arthur Ernest Butterfield), the Chief Engineer for Docks for the London and North Eastern Railway (based at Hull), and staff based at the Humber Conservancy's Pilot's Office. The subject matter is dredging operations on the Hebble Shoal in the vicinity of the Hull Docks, and the deposit of the spoil at the Skitter and Paull Holme deposit grounds). It also covers dredging undertaken in the vicinity of New Holland and Saltend.

Observations on the deposit grounds made at Killingholme are also included in the file.
