Description:
Correspondence between the engineer to the Humber Conservancy Board, the District Engineer, LNER, Hull, Mr Mountifield, Superintendent at the Brough Office, and various timber suppliers, regarding the operation, maintenance and repair of the Hessle syphon tide gauge and Low light jetty. There is a schedule of quantities for the construction of the tide gauge, within the file. The syphon piping for the tide gauge, extended about 70 yards into the river, from the jetty, to a floating buoy in the river. The tide gauge was often damaged by vessels sailing too close to the shore at this point.
