File 723 'Keadby Bridge'

Reference No:
C DPD/1/3/5/1/307
Dates:
6 May 1921-25 May 1957
Description:
Comprises correspondence between the Chief Engineer to the Humber Conservancy Board, Trinity House, London, Eastern Region, British Rail, London, the Chamber of Shipping of the UK, London, and the British Transport Commission, London, regarding the British Transport Commission Bill 1954 – 1955: Keadby Trent Lifting Bridge. As from 1st April 1956, the movable span of the bridge over the River Trent would be permanently fixed in the down position. As a result, there were many meetings regarding the effect on the navigation lighting required, etc. It would appear that major mechanical and electrical repairs to the structure would have a major say in the bridge's future as per the correspondence of Messrs Lewin Gregor Torr Durnford and Company and Freeman Fox and Partners, both dated 15th April 1955. Also includes earlier correspondence in 1922, with the Grand Central Railway, regarding the demolition of the old railway bridge.
