Description:

The file consists of of letters, sent (and received) by the Engineer to the Humber Conservancy Board (Arthur Ernest Butterfield), to/from the Hull and Barnsley Railway and Geodhart Brothers Limited. The subject matter is dredging work carried out on the Hebble Shoal in the River Humber, just outside the Alexandra Dock. This includes weekly reports on the work detailing: the site on the Shoal, the Dredger used, the Barge Number, and the quantity dredged in cubic yards. The file also includes lists outlining where dredged material was deposited in the Humber.

Further correspondence in the file relates to Geodhart’s Dredger No. 20, which sank about one mile east of the Alexandra Dock Lockpit, and operational problems arising from the dredging work.
