Description:
The file comprises letters, sent (and received) by the Engineer to the Humber Conservancy Board (Arthur Ernest Butterfield), to/from J. W. Fennellow, employee of the Board at Goole. The subject matter of the correspondence is the operational performance of the newly placed lights between Faxfleet Ness and Whitton Pier. The conversation having been instigated by a radical change in the position of the navigable channel in the Upper Humber (a River Pilot reported that whilst in charge of the S.S. 'Stobart' he caught the ground because of the alteration of depth and direction of the channel).
