The file comprises, correspondence sent (and received) by the Engineer to the Humber Conservancy Board (Arthur Ernest Butterfield), to/from various suppliers and contractors on the subject of repairs and maintenance work required at the Pilot’s Office situate on Queen Street, Hull. This includes a specification (produced by the Board's Engineer, Arthur Ernest Butterfield, May 1911) for labour and materials outlining major proposed alterations to the Office. It also includes correspondence regarding repairs to the office's flooring in 1915.

Another topic covered in correspondence—dated June 1908—is discussion surrounding proposals to display signals from a window on the top floor of the Pilot Office, to alert mariners whenever any radical alteration is made to the seamarks in the River Humber above Hull; particularly affecting shipping using the Albert Dock Quay.
