Description:

The file consists of correspondence between the Engineer to the Humber Conservancy Board (Arthur Ernest Butterfield), representatives of Chance Brothers Limited (Smethwick), representatives of Earles Shipbuilding and Engineering Company Limited (Hull), and various suppliers of marine equipment and materials. The subject matter is the recently built Bull Lightship [HCB LV 8] stationed in the Lower Humber. This includes correspondence concerning a collision between the Lightship and the 'Laconia', and particulars of the damage caused. Along with a report, dated 10 January 1908, detailing an incident where the Lightship parted from her moorings and drifted off station.

Returns of the following forms concerning the Lightship have also been included in the file: Form ‘A’ New Articles Required, Form ‘B’ Stores in Stock, and Form’ C’ Report of Stores Received. This is complemented by an inventory for the Lightship dated 1 March 1909. Monthly reports submitted to the Engineer by the Master of the Lightship can also be found within the file.
