Description:

The file consists of correspondence between the Engineer (Arthur Ernest Butterfield) and the Chief Collector (Arthur Riches) to the Humber Conservancy Board. The subject matter is anticipated extra repairs (over the following three years) that will be needed by the Board's lightships, steam and motor launches, and other floating property. The file also covers prospective claims (not yet rendered) for which the Board is liable for, received from the owners of vessels which have been damaged.

Also discussed in the file are payments for night watches by crew members of the steam launches 'Spurn' and 'W. S. Wright', anti-aircraft and bombardment insurance for lighthouses and jetties, and rent for beacon sites. It also includes forms issued by the Engineer to the Chief Collector in connection with accidents and sickness involving personnel in the Engineering Department.
