Description:

A package containing papers surrendered to the Aire and Calder Navigation on 15 October 1889 by Benjamin Hewitt. The papers are connected with Leasehold premises (Nos. 88 and 154) situate in Albert Street in the town of Goole, Yorkshire. The package includes the following:

Deeds (1853–1889):

1. Lease No. 88 for 99 years (16 May 1853): the Trustees of the Aire and Calder Navigation to Thomas Newton. It includes an inset plan showing the land and property in question. The Deed has been signed and sealed by Thomas Cooper (the surviving Trustee under the Will of Thomas Newton), and the following representatives of the Navigation: Sir William Mordaunt Milner, John Spencer Stanhope, William Mordaunt Edward Milner, and John George Smyth.

2. Counterpart of Lease No. 88 for 99 years (16 May 1853): the Trustees of the Aire and Calder Navigation to Thomas Newton. It includes an inset plan showing the land and property in question. The Deed has been signed and sealed by the aforementioned Leasee.

3. Lease No. 154 for 99 years (11 May 1872): the Trustees of the Aire and Calder Navigation to Nancy Newton. It includes an inset plan showing the land and property in question. The Deed has been signed and sealed by Thomas Newton (administrator of the estate of Nancy Newton), and the following representatives of the Navigation: John Spencer Stanhope, Andrew Montagu, William Aldam, and Walter Thomas William Spencer Stanhope.

4. Counterpart of Lease No. 154 for 99 years (11 May 1872): the Trustees of the Aire and Calder Navigation to Nancy Newton. It includes an inset plan showing the land and property in question. The Deed has been signed and sealed by the aforementioned Leasee.

5. Assignment of Leaseholds Nos. 88 and 154 (13 April 1889): Thomas Cooper (executor of Thomas Newton deceased, and Thomas Newton administrator of Nancy Newton deceased, with the consent of the Trustees of the Aire and Calder Navigation) to Benjamin Hewitt. The Deed has been signed and sealed by the aforementioned parties, John Ingleby, and Marmaduke Storr Hodson on behalf of the Navigation.

6. Surrender of Leaseholds Nos. 88 and 154 (15 October 1889): Benjamin Hewitt to Andrew Montagu and others (Trustees of the Aire and Calder Navigation). The Deed has been signed and sealed by the aforementioned Leasee.
