Description:

A package containing papers surrendered to the Aire and Calder Navigation on 5 July 1906 by James Whitaker. The papers are connected with Leasehold premises (No. 48) situate in South Street in the town of Goole, Yorkshire. The package includes the following:

Deeds (1841–1906):

1. Lease for 99 years (2 August 1841): the Trustees of the Aire and Calder Navigation to John Rutherford. It includes an inset plan showing the land and property in question. The Deed has been signed and sealed by the aforementioned Leasee, and the following representatives of the Navigation: Sir William Mordaunt Milner, John Spencer Stanhope, Richard Fountayne Wilson, and Sir John Lowther.

2. Counterpart of Lease for 99 years (2 August 1841): the Trustees of the Aire and Calder Navigation to John Rutherford. It includes an inset plan showing the land and property in question. The Deed has been signed and sealed by the aforementioned Leasee.

3. Assignment of Leasehold (1 May 1856): John Rutherford (with the consent of the Trustees of the Aire and Calder Navigation) to Thomas Ramsey. The Deed has been signed and sealed by the aforementioned parties, and Thomas Fisher on behalf of the Navigation.

4. Assignment of Leasehold (31 January 1876): Thomas Ramsey (with the consent of the Trustees of the Aire and Calder Navigation) to James Whitaker. The Deed has been signed and sealed by the aforementioned parties, and Marmaduke Storr Hodson on behalf of the Navigation.

5. Mortgage of Leasehold (1 February 1876): James Whitaker to the Provincial Benefit Building Society. The Deed has been signed and sealed by the aforementioned Leasee, and it bears the seal of the aforementioned Building Society.

6. Surrender of Leasehold (5 July 1906): James Whitaker to the Trustees of the Aire and Calder Navigation. The Deed has been signed by the aforementioned Leasee, and it also bears the seal of the Navigation.
