Smack Chancellor left Hull April 4th at noon & not having tide enough to take us out of the Humber we let go our anchor riding to it until 4 am. Next morning & got under weigh & got out clear of Newsand Float at 5.30, wind at time , South moderate course shipped E N E . All hands at work on deck until 11.30. Put the watch at the helm & went below at 12.30. Hearing someone scream out rushed on deck and found we had run into a Codmans Boat, drowning one hand , launched our boat & made every effort to save him but to no avail, put the remaining three on board their vessel, which proved to be the Monarch of Grimsby, Spurn at the time of collision WSW 26 miles by log, we then proceeded on our journey being bound for the Great Northern Steam Fishing Fleet. Fishing on tail end of Dogger bank , arriving there on the 8th & sent a correct statement in to our owner.
