Record of Death or Injury.
About 3am 19th March 1897. George Woodgate, skipper. A lamp which was hanging in the engine room exploded and set the vessel on fire, and I was called out of my berth , and had proceeded as far as the engine room when I was by the fire which burnt my face and hands severley.
Record of Casualty.
As above. The woodwork in the engine room and companion way was scorched. The fire which was caused by the explosion as above. Cause of explosion is unknown.
Official Log.
Owing to severe injuries referred to on page 11 I was transferred to the mission ship. Where I remained intil sufficiently recovered a fortnight later. When I returned to my own vessel which in the meantime was in charge of my 2nd hand.
