Record of Death or Injury.
10 May 1897 North Sea. J H Garton, skipper. Drowned whilst lifting end of trawl beam by means of a hand spike. The vessel gave a lurchwhich caused the beam to suddenly drop, the force threw the handspike, and the deceased into the water.
Record of Casualty.
May 10th 1897 North Sea. Loss of life buoy & one handspike. The wooden handspike was lost in the manner described above and was never recovered. The life buoy was thrown to the deceased & was also not recovered it having apparently sunk.
