March 26th 1897 5pm. E Brooks,cook. Pulled overboard & drowned with bridle whilst shooting the gear, by holding on to the after bridle.

April 23rd. Name of person illtreated - Charles M Taylor, deck hand by J Malaney, boatswain. In a moment of annoyance J Malaney lifted up the oar & struck Taylor with it - he also admitted to having previously struck him with his fist in the face. See page 11 for further details.

For the offence referred to on page 11 J Malaney, boatswain has this day been fined 5/- under Regulation 3 for maintaining discipline, and such fine has been paid to the Superintendent of Mercantile Marine Office Hull this day 12th May 1897.
