13/7/97. Dear Sir I Robert Hairsine skipper of the SS Alderney are to complain of my deck hand William Kane refusing to keep his tongue still when told and get on with his work. He said he would do as he liked he didn't care for me or anyone .

Next afternoon 14/7/97 the mate asked him for a marling spike and he threw it at him, no doubt if it had struck him it would have done him much harm .
