3/12/1901. Collision with the Douglas of Hull. ( see below )
Official Log.
Tuesday 3rd December at 8.30pm we were laying too with engines stopped . The trawlers Douglas Trinidad & Vancouver were with us. The Douglas steames up from astern evidently intending to speak to us. He ported his helm to cross our stern but not until he was too close and although I rung my engines ahead , before we got any way on our ship the swell caught the Douglas & she collided heavily with her port side against our rudder & stern port. The Douglas sustained heavy damage & called out he was sinking. I tried to move our engines to go to him but found we could not move. So I signalled to Trinidad who steamed to us & I then sent him to Douglas but that vessel had sank. The Trinidad only succeeded in rescuing the deck hand of the Douglas.
