James Sprigg signed on special agreement before Superintendent on 21st March. Agreement cancelled April 20th.

On April 20 the Cook James Sprigg was sent home by a steam cutter suffering with a gethered hand - and was incapable of doing his duty and as soon as he arrived in port he returned to the Southampton Training ship in which he belonged.

May 20th North Sea Spurn bearing W half S 280 miles. Peter Lawson 2nd hand was taken ill and on the 22 was sent to London by the Steam Cutter Asia. On the 25th May he was admitted as a patient in the Seamens Hospital at Greenwich where he died from Meningitis on the 29th May.
