Official Log. I hereby report that January 24th 1906 at 8pm I shouted from the bridge to the mate that we were going to shoot our gear. The mate called down the forecastle to the crew and ordered them to come on deck as we were going to shoot. The boatswain J Norman came up on the bridge together with W Ellis the 3rd hand. The boatswain said they were not going to shoot the gear as they considered we were too near the [?] . I then asked whether the whale of the crew refused , to which the boatswain & 3rd hand replied yes.
