18 July 1890 9.30am North Sea. Smashed our boat into a wreck. Split our mainsail & broke 12 feet of rails. Collided with smacks Bacchante & Excel both of Hull. As we were all running ahead the Bacchante suddenly luffed & ran into our stern, thus stopping our way & causing the Excel who was on the opposite quarter to also run into us. The latter would otherwise have cleared us.
