While he was bringing up the gear at 7.30am , caught his hand in the cogwheel before the master had a chance to stop the engine it had his hand off. His hand & wrist were taken off by the wheel but the doctor was obliged to take off more of the arm. He was sent to London from the mission ship, where he was in the infirmary for some time. He is now alright but for the loss of his right hand.
