Record of Illtreatment or Punishment.
12 February 1891 North Sea. Name of person illtreated - W Linstead 2nd hand by R A Thomas 3rd hand. These two men when alongside the cutter in the boat had some words, owing to the 3rd hand using insulting language . The third hand struck him on the head with his fist.
Memoranda by Skipper.
W Linstead refused duty on February 12 by refusing to assist to set up the prop when so ordered. The above named Linstead having expressed his regret for his misconduct in refusing to obey my commands I hereby wish to express my desire to overlook this matter that no punishment was inflicted.
Entry by Mercantile Marine Office. For the assault referred to on page 11 the 3rd hand R A Thomas has this day been fined 5/- under regulation 3 for maintaining discipline (as printed on page 3 of this agreement.) , which amount has been paid to the superintendent of Mercantile Marine at this port Hull. February 20th 1891.
