Description

Admin History:

The Hull and District Boot Traders Association was founded in 1928, with Charles Henry Chapman as its first president. It had the aims of promoting and maintaining friendly relations; encouraging social gatherings; protecting members and securing special rates for them. It would hold events to promote and develop the industry, including various talks and held an annual repairers competition, in which members competed for the William Tesseyman Cup.

The association ran several social events for it’s members, as well an active cricket team for many years. In 1947, the association had over 170 members and purchased Balta House at 121 Beverley Road as a headquarters and social club before it was sold due to financial difficulties in 1970. The Hull and District Association would variously become member of other groups, such as the Incorporated National Federation of Boot Traders Associations, the Yorkshire and District Chapter/Association and the Yorkshire Footwear Repairers Association. The Hull and District Association itself was wound up in 1990 due to falling membership.
