Description

Admin History:
Hull Kingston Rowing Club was founded in 1882 as an amalgamation of the St. George's and other Humber rowing clubs. The original boathouse was at Minerva Pier and replaced at Stoneferry in 1893. The club moved up river slightly again in 1904 but the M.O.D. acquired the premises during the first world war. The club finally relocated to new premises at Hull Bank, Newland on the west bank of the river Hull about a quarter of a mile downstream of Sutton Road Bridge. However the boathouse was destoyed by fire in 1932. In 1933 a new boathouse was opened to be replaced again in 1965 by a more permanent home with the added luxury of electrical supply. Club successes include National Champoinship wins, entries at Henley from 1968 onwards and countless wins at club level regattas. The club belonged to its members with a purpose to teach people to row in order to foster and enjoy the sport of rowing and competing. During the 1970's women were encouraged to join as equal members for the first time.
