Description

Admin History:
The Ormonde (Hull) Club was a gentlemen's club founded by a group of business men in 1901. This made it the second oldest club in the city after the Old Town Club on Dock Walls. It was claimed it had been founded after a suggestion from the Chief Constable of the city that well regulated clubs could help to eliminate a lot of illegal betting occurring at that time. Named after an unbeaten race horse owned by the duke of Westminster, the Ormonde Club was based on Albion Street. As well as supporting many activities such as snooker and boxing, it was also very active in fund raising for local good causes. The club was wound up in 2008. In addition to the main club, there was also the Little Ormonde Club.
