Description:
A history of The Shipwrecked Fishermen and Mariners Royal Benevolent Society which was founded in 1839. The Port of Hull Society acted as one of their agents assisting shipwrecked persons, widows, children and aged parents. The Seafarers' Welfare Officer and the Port Missioners were responsible for discharging the Society's responsibilities which included offering food and shelter, communication, clothing, travel and subsistence. Half-yearly grants were paid in January and July (May-Nov from 1979).
