Dates:
Dec 1967 - Dec 1970
Description:
Most of the correspondence in this bundle consists of letters of thanks from families throughout the United Kingdom who received Christmas parcels from the Society. Other correspondence is with organisations, such as SSAFA (the Soldiers', Sailors' and Airmen's Families Association) and the British Sailor's Society regarding the number of children supported by the Society. During this period the Society supported over 400 children whose fathers were lost at sea, whether in the Royal or Merchant Navy or fishing fleet. They made an allowance of £1 per week which was paid through the bank to widows. The Society's own Child Care Officer or an approved agent visited them as regularly as possible. They also made an allowance of clothing twice a year
