This bundle includes details of the events to be held in 1971. Events included a performance of the 'Messiah' by the Hull Choral Union at the City Hall (9 Apr), an Official visit to the homes by the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Hull and the Sheriff and Sheriff's Lady (20 Apr), a grand celebration carnival (31 May), visit by her Royal Highness The Princess Anne (25 Jun), a grand reunion of Old Scholars (10-11 Jul) and a service of thanksgiving in Holy Trinity Church led by the Archbishop of York (10 Oct). Included are programmes, a special edition of Ashore and Afloat (2 copies) produced for the occasion, menus and copies of some of the speeches given and correspondence relating to a special film that was made about the work of the Society with Brian Rix as the narrator and corrspondence in relation to Charles Mitchell's special anniversary booklet. The bundle contains an alphabetical register of old scholars (including addresses and dates they left). There was also a presentation of a plaque to the Lord Mayor, a floral display and several other money raising events. The celebrations involved many different branches of the Society, not just in Hull.
