Description:

List of workmen employed in the repair of war damaged housing that resided outside the Hull City Boundary. The list shows the name of each contractor (alphabetically by company name) and, in most cases, the order number under which they are working. It also gives the total number of men employed by each contractor, their names, home town, age (not in all cases) and trade. Foremen and apprentices are identified in all of the returns as well as the ages of youths and apprentices.

The trade of each employee is given in the form of a code:

B=Bricklayer

BP=Bricklayer-Plasterer

J=Joiner

P=Plasterer

S=Slater

PL=Plumber

BL=Bricklayer-Labourer

JL=Joiner-Labourer

SL=Slating-Labourer

L=Ordinary Labourer

E=Electrician

PA=Painter

MD=Motor Driver
