Hull City Council Care of the Blind Committee

Dates:
1920-1930

Description

Admin History:
The Care of the Blind Committee was initially established in October 1920, after a memorandum issued by the Ministry of Health. This called for local authorities to develop a scheme under the provisions of the 1920 Blind Persons Act. This committee seems not to have operated during 1921-1922 but was reinstated in April 1922. From July 1929 it became a sub-committee of the Health and Public Assistance Committee before being separated just over a year later in November 1930. It was finally terminated again in 1949 when the 1948 National Assistance Act was passed. This act repealed and replaced any provision established under the 1920 and 1938 Blind Persons Acts, including any committees set up.
