Hull City Council Economy (Special) Committee

Dates:
1930-1934

Description

Admin History:
As a result of the economic situation at the time, and with drastic cuts in government spending, like many other authorities, Hull City Council decided to try and ensure a reduction in expenditure. As a consequence it established the Economy (Special) Committee on 24 September 1931. It had the express responsibility to review estimates and present its findings in the following February. In addition, all items of expenditure over an agreed limit had to be approved by it. It would be a controversial committee, with for example, its own minutes returned on several occasions. The last meeting of the committee was on 13 March 1934 although there was the proviso that should the need arise, it could meet again at any time.
