Admin History:
The Hackney Carriage Committee operated from 1890-1917 when its powers were transferred to the Watch Committee. The Committee's remit included the control and licensing of Hackey carriages, omnibuses and tramways and ther drivers, conductors, and porter, as well as pleasure boats and their attendants. They also administered Public Rights over footpaths and advertising vehicles and boards in the streets.
