Hull Municpial Corporation Local Fuel Committee records

Dates:
1939-1951

Description

Admin History:
At the start of what would be known as the Second World War, the UK government introduced statutory controls on house coal supplies and prices. Under these same control orders, local authorities were also required to appoint Local Fuel Overseers. In Hull in April 1943, an Advisory Committee of elected members and representatives of local businesses was established to assist and advise the local overseer. This committee would later become known as the Local Fuel Committee or even just the Fuel Committee. As hostilities continued, the committee would later go on to ensure there were sufficient supplies of coal across the city. With the central government ending controls on the supply of the coal in the June of 1958, the committee was wound up the following month, July 1958.
