As a result of having the right to appoint a Commissioner of Pilots, the council decide to establish a Pilots Committee in January 1880. It was to consider and confer on all matters relating to pilotage of the River Humber and report to the council at least once a year on the transactions of the Commissioners. The committee was terminated in November 1899, although the council continued to elect a commissioner until 1907.
