Admin History:

The Pontoon Committee was established in February 1867 to enquire into and report back as to whether consultation was needed with the Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway Company and other interested parties into the construction of a pontoon at the port. This would be for the safe landing of passengers and cattle at all times of the tide. Although it was reappointed in November 1867, it does not seem to have met again after this date.
