Admin History:
The War Damaged Sites (Special) Committee was appointed in December 1953 in order to carry into effect the powers of the council under the War Damaged Sites Act of 1949. This act was one of several which enabled the payment of compensation for buildings or land damaged by enemy action. The committee was made up of 12 members drawn from 4 other committees: Town Planning, Cleansing and Sanitary, Parks and Burials and Works. It was delegated the full compulsory powers of the council available under the terms of the act. In 1959/1960 was added the power to erect shelters on specific sites as well. The committee was dissolved in May 1963 and its powers transferred to the Planning Committee.
