Description

Admin History:
Operation Raleigh, which grew out of Operation Drake, was established in 1984. It ran two ships, the Sir Walter Raleigh and the Zebu as a youth project developing self-confidence and leadership. This was achieved through activities such as community service, adventure and scientific exploration. The City of Hull donated the vessel, Sir Walter Raleigh, formerly the Hull ship, the Swanella. Operation Raleigh, very much the brain child of explorer Colonel John Blashford-Snell, was launched in November 1984 when the Sir Walter Raleigh left Hull. The project was wound up in 1988 although its work continues as Raleigh International.
