- Admin History:
- Christopher Pickering (1842-1920) was a fishing vessel owner and a fish merchant. His deed of gift, 1910, provided funds for the erection of the King Edward VII Memorial Church on Hessle Road. The church was consecrated in 1915 and demolished in 1968 when the building became unsafe. It was replaced by St. Nicholas's Church. The church was part of a 'model' village which included a vicarage, park, recreation ground, museum of fishing and shipping, almshouses and a children's home all gifted by Pickering.
