Description

Admin History:
Christopher Pickering (1842-1920) was a fishing vessel owner and a fish merchant who, in 1909, conveyed to Hull Corporation a site for 12 almshouses on Hessle Road. In 1913, 8 more houses were added with a further 4 in 1921. They were to be for people connected with either the fishing industry or the retail trade. The almshouses were part of a 'model' village which included a church, vicarage, park, recreation ground, museum of fishing and shipping and a children's home all gifted by Pickering.
