Weaver's Hospital situated in Dagger Lane is believed to have been founded by Peter Simpson, a weaver. In 1775 John Buttery gave money to the Corporation for the upkeep of the hospital and weekly payments to the 6 residents. Weaver's was one of the hospitals consolidated in 1887 into new buildings on Northumberland Avenue
