The Railways Act of 1921 lead to the amalgamation, which took effect from 1st January 1923, of Britain's railways into four large companies, including the London & North Eastern Railway. The London and North Eastern Railway (LNER) encompassed a number of railways including Great Central, Great Eastern, Great Northern, Great North of Scotland, Hull & Barnsley, North British and North Eastern.
Following the Transport Act of 1947 the railways were nationalised with the creation of British Railways on 1st January 1948.

These registers detail the traffic passing through the signal box and record information about the Bell Signal received describing the train; whether the line is clear; the time the train entered and left the Section with some entries also recording the engine number. One side of the register is devoted to UP the other to DOWN trains.
See DBLE/1/11 for instructions to signalmen on how to complete the entries. The seriesends (9 October 1963) when a new type of register was introduced.
