Recalls how she was responsible for carrying the gas masks and her mother's bag to the shelter when the sirens sounded so her mother could take her younger brother. She remembers the night her street got hit by a landmine and how her father had burnt his arm fighting the fire and that her mother had put a bandage on it so he could go out again. 'What a relief when the All Clear blew'.

When she left the shelter she saw that the street was covered with bricks, tiles and soot but there was no water or gas. She also remembers the blitz of May 1941 and how the ceiling had fallen-down which meant her parents had to clean-up the damage before she could return home. She says how she tries to keep calm when the sirens go and the planes fly overhead and that she can't wait for 'the last All Clear and our friends and relatives come home again'.
