- London, Tuesday, 8.15p.m. 'Last night I intended to write you a few lines, darling, but I didn't economise my energy & was too tired by the time I finally got out paper & pen. I didn't go swimming so I went shopping instead & prepared a really nice dinner but Winifred didn't come in till 9.30 & it got too much done - or at least less did because I was too hungry by 8.30 to wait any longer & had mine.'
