Kathleen or 'Kay' Pearson as he was better known was born in Hull on 20th August 1896. Born at No.6 Prince Street, Kay Pearson was a keen singer and dancer. He elder brother paid for her to have piano lessons. This led to lifetime of Kay playing piano in clubs and societies, and various events. Married during the First World War, Kathleen had her first child, a son, born down Selby Street on the day a Zepplin raid affected Selby Street and the surrounding area. She later went on to have three daughters, though at the time of her book publication in 1979 her daughter, Muriel had died. At the age of 54 Kay was widowed. Kay worked for Thorton Varley but also at a number of other shops in Hull. In the 1930s she ran a dance school of her own, sometimes putting on shows and raising funds for the Lady Mayoress's Clothing Fund. Her book 'Life in Old Hull' was eventually published in 1979 by Bradley Publications of Hull.
