Prince Charles Edward Stuart, known as Bonnie Prince Charlie, led a rebellion in 1745 against King George I in an attempt to place his father, also James Stuart, onto the throne of Britain. With the Jacobites heading south from Scotland, Hull felt at threat, and reacted with a militia force.
