- Admin History:
- Archibald (Archie) Ernest Trout, was born in 1879. He was an active Wesleyan Methodist and worked for many years on the railways in several different capacities. He developed a keen interest in local and postal history and wrote extensively on these subjects. As well as being an avid collector, Trout organised many historical talks and tours. In 1901 he married Florence Helen Dixon and they had 1 son. Archie died in 1962.
- Description:
The works on the various structures in the area were described by Trout on the first page of L DLTA/1/1 as 'Some notes on Hull's Public Buildings (Civic Institutions, Churches, Chapels, Schools, Hospitals, Places of Amusement, etc) being gleanings from old documents, records books etc. and the results of personal observation, gathered together for future use'. The other records, for South Cave and Hunsley are similar, and include Trout's own research notes, lecture scripts and correspondence which reflects his interest in the history of the area.
Trout also compiled notes relating to public houses in Hull and these can be found at L DLTA/4 in alphabetical order of the name of the public houses.
