Golf Links Floral and Horticultural Society, Hull

Dates:
1934-1978

Description

Admin History:
Formed in 1927, the Golf Links Floral and Horticultural Society was set up to manage and promote activities at the Golf Links Allotments off Hall Road in North Hull. At its peak, the society had a very healthy membership and went on to hold many successful shows, initially in their own 'Rest Hut' on site. These shows later moved to St. Alban the Marytr Church Hall on Hall Road, after the hut was vandalised. However, after the death of its long serving secretary, Sydney Norfolk in 1977, and with a declining membership, the decision was made to wind up the society in 1978. Two cups were presented to the North Hull Community Centre for their annual show in order to perpetuate the name of the society and that of Sydney Norfolk. The site of the allotments was redeveloped sometime after 2005.
