The Lyceum Society

Description

Admin History:

The Lyceum Society was founded in October 1857. It appears to have been a small gentlemen's club with membership restricted to a maximum of 12 at any one time. Every member was required to give a paper on a selected topic or subject or face a fine of 5s. Amongst its founding members were Albert K. Rollit, Joseph Gregson and Right Hon Thomas Gregson.

The Society's motto appears to be 'Juste sapienterque discepta'.
