Hull & East Riding Auto-Cycle Club

Dates:
1907-1970

Description

Admin History:

The Club was formed as a result of Mr F. Green and Capt J.A. Foster's desire to hold a Hill Climbing Competition 'especially Rexes' and were told by the Secretary of The Auto Cycle Club that any competition had to be promoted by an official club. They therefore placed an advert in the Hull Daily Mail of their intention to hold a meeting on 22nd May 1907 at the Neptune Hotel, with more than twenty supporters turning-up.

The Club quickly grew and ran regular competitions. In the 1920s these were renamed as 'Championship Trials'. By 1926 the Club was being referred to as the 'Hull Auto-Cycle and Light Car Club' and as 'Hull Auto Club' in 1967 (see DSMC/12).
