Royal College of Nursing: Hull Branch
- Dates:
- 1934-1971
Description
- Admin History:
The College of Nursing Ltd was established in 1916 by Sir Arthur Stanley (1st Secretary) and Dame Sarah Swift. The College was granted a Charter in 1928, later becoming the College of Nursing and in 1939 George IV granted the use of 'Royal'.
Branches were first known as Local Centres. Their overall co-ordination was the responsibility of a standing committee. Originally called the Local Centres Standing Committee (1918-1926), renamed the Local Branches Standing Committee (1925-1929), then renamed the Branches Standing Committee (1930-April 1966).
The 1940 Annual Report (see DSRN/3/1) states it is the 23rd such report which suggests the Hull branch was formed in about 1917.
